Viking ExplorersIolite is derived from the Greek word for violet. It is often known as the Viking’s compass as Leif Eriksson and other Viking explorers used thin pieces of Iolite as a polarizing filter. Using a sliver of Iolite, they were able determine the location of the sun and safely navigate the waters through any condition.
